For the first time since 1994, the Lakeland Hawks beat the Lake City Timberwolves, by the final score of 30-21. Led by Senior running backs John Cornish and Thomas Calder, the Hawks scored on their opening possession with a 29-yard field goal by junior kicker Owen Forsman. After an impressive 93-yard catch and run from senior quarterback Jackson Pettit to Trevor Cogley, which highlighted the night for the Timberwolves, Lakeland answers back with a 32-yard TD strike from senior quarterback Caysen Loutzenhiser to sophomore WR Ezra Benson. Lakeland is bolstered by an solid offensive line, 6’6” 310# senior left tackle Preston Jeffs, senior right tackle Taylor Winkelkotter and sophomore guard Carter Vanek. The underclassmen for the Hawks have stepped up and right in to contribute on both sides of the ball, Sophomores Ezra Benson and Weston Saputski, along with Vanek and an incoming freshman class that looks promising, new head coach Mike Schroeder and staff look to have the Lakeland football program rolling smooth. Lake City showed signs of explosive play ability, but was slowed by an early hip injury to senior Braeden Ross and late game cramping to D1 prospect Zach Johnson kept him from contributing when needed most. The T-Wolves have a few other athletes we’ll be keeping an eye on throughout the season, senior linemen Alex Green (who has an offer from the University of Idaho) and Austin Mahnke, senior linebacker Wayne Queen (TFL, sack, pass deflection), senior DB Brodie Beebe (returning 1st team DB) and junior LB Preston Demarre are all solid pieces for the Timberwolves to build around.

Game Of The Week Review: University @ Mt Spokane

 University Titans @ Mt Spokane Wildcats Our game of the week took us to Union Stadium in north Spokane, where our preseason #13 Mt Spokane Wildcats hosted the #12 Titans from University High School. Head Coach Terry Cloer and the Wildcats didn’t waste any time turning that underdog mentality into a week 1 statement. The Wildcats only returning starter, senior Blake Speer scored their first points of the season on a 1-yard touchdown run and then kicked the extra point, did the punting, returned kicks and knocked through a 30-yard field goal, all in the just the 1st quarter (would hit again from 40-yards later in the game). Mt Spokane would go up by double digits and would not look back. First game hiccups along with cramping slowed the Titans and they were unable to match the speed of the Wildcats.
