Game Of The Week Review: University @ Mt Spokane

University Titans @ Mt Spokane Wildcats

Our game of the week took us to Union Stadium in north Spokane, where our preseason #13 Mt Spokane Wildcats hosted the #12 Titans from University High School. Head Coach Terry Cloer and the Wildcats didn’t waste any time turning that underdog mentality into a week 1 statement. The Wildcats only returning starter, senior Blake Speer scored their first points of the season on a 1-yard touchdown run and then kicked the extra point, did the punting, returned kicks and knocked through a 30-yard field goal, all in the just the 1st quarter (would hit again from 40-yards later in the game). Mt Spokane would go up by double digits and would not look back. First game hiccups along with cramping slowed the Titans and they were unable to match the speed of the Wildcats. After a convincing 30-14 victory to start the season, the future of the Mt Spokane program looks very promising. The 2024 class led by quarterback TJ Haberman looked very impressive against his former team and wide receiver / safety  Boden Gardner made plays on both sides of the ball.

INWFB Prospects:

Blake Speer (‘23 ATH Mt Spokane) Not only is Blake the primary weapon in the Wildcat offense, he’s also the punter, kicker, kickoff return, punt return… and is a game changer at any moment. At 5’9” 165#, he isn’t the biggest physically, but makes up in every aspect of his game.

Boden Gardner (‘24 ATH Mt Spokane) Injuries have kept Boden from seeing the field much over the past two seasons, with state champion track speed, toughness, good size (6’2” 180#), athletic ability and an impressive showing in game 1, Gardner should be on a lot of recruiting radars sooner rather than later.

TJ Haberman (‘24 QB Mt Spokane) Coming off a sophomore year where a lot of things were in question for TJ, he answered a lot of those in week 1. Looking like a potential all area quarterback, TJ has a lot of the tools you look for in a young QB, arm strength with the ability to throw off platform with a change in angles and velocity, good pocket awareness, athletic ability to extend the play and a 6’3” one-hundred and eighty pound frame.
